Managing Partner

I am a qualified Solicitor and Managing Partner of Owens Solicitors. I started Owens Solicitors as a sole practice in June 2007 and I specialise in Family Law, Immigration, Wills and Probate.

Yomi has specialised in divorce and family law for over 13 years. Her clients come from a range of backgrounds and she adapts her approach to their particular needs and circumstances, whilst ensuring that common sense is applied alongside the law.

Yomi represents clients in complex children cases, including those with an international aspect, or involving social services and is experienced in dealing with emergency matters at short notice. Her priority is to try and advise on the best course of action to try and maintain family relationships, by reaching an agreement with the other parent regarding child-related issues but where this cannot be achieved, Yomi is experienced in applying to the court to obtain the best possible outcome for her clients and children.

She regularly advises on the financial consequences resulting from the breakdown of relationships, covering a wide range of assets from the modest to those involving complex business structures such as partnerships, companies and trusts.

Yomi advises on pre and post nuptial and living together agreements to protect assets prior to couples getting married or when cohabiting. She has considerable experience dealing with the complex issues of relationship breakdown between cohabitees/unmarried couples, particularly where there are children who require financial provision including claims under the Children Act including contact, residence, parental responsibility, international relocation and ToLATA property disputes.

She is a member of Resolution, an organisation founded by family justice professionals who work to resolve issues in a constructive way, and she endeavours where possible to resolve disputes through negotiation. Yomi also understands, however, that taking immediate and decisive action is sometimes the only way to protect her client’s interests and regularly assists them in the court system.

Yomi Oni-Williams qualified as a solicitor in 2003. She has a BA in Classics and a LLB (Hons) from the University of Leeds and went on to do her Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London.

Yomi’s immigration specialisms:

Yomi can advise you on all aspects of Wills and Probate, her key experience being in Will preparation, probate and administration of estates including cases of intestacy, inheritance tax and lasting powers of attorney.

A well-drafted Will gives you the peace of mind of knowing that your possessions are distributed as you would like them on your passing. Yomi can assist you with drafting a valid Will that accurately reflects your wishes and can advise on executors, beneficiaries and implications regarding Inheritance Tax.

Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) are important documents that enable you to give permission to others to handle your affairs and make decisions on your behalf if you are no longer able to do so. Yomi can help ensure that the wording in your LPAs is sufficiently precise and protects your interests.

Administering an estate, ‘probate’, can be complex, and even where an estate is relatively modest, complications can arise at a time when people are already suffering from the stress and the anxiety caused by the death of a loved one. Yomi can assist you with all aspects of the administration of an estate whether or not there is a Will, whether the estate be small or large or somewhere in between.
