Divorce Costs

Our skilled negotiators aim to achieve the best possible result for our clients and settle finance issues without the need to go to Court but where this is not possible, we have a successful track record in taking tough action in Court proceedings.

The cost of legal proceedings can be a daunting prospect so at Owens Solicitors we offer a range of flexible pricing options, including fixed fees and service level guarantees, so you know how much things will cost from the outset.

The dangers of DIY Divorce

Many people are tempted to try to deal with divorce proceedings themselves, however, it can end up costing you more in the long-run, both financially and emotionally.

Great care needs to be taken when deciding on the basis of which your divorce or dissolution can be granted; you need to understand the eligibility criteria; provide evidence to prove this; and use the right words in your divorce or dissolution petition.
You need to ensure that all the paperwork is completed properly to avoid your application being returned and if applicable, obtain any court orders needed such as urgent orders to stop your ex-partner trying to dispose of financial assets to limit what you can claim from them.

How your finances are split is not actually part of the divorce process and needs to be dealt with separately – something that can be tricky to do without the benefit of legal advice. You ought to get independent legal advice on whether the financial settlement you and your ex-partner have agreed to divide your property, pensions etc. is fair or if there is more you are entitled to. If there is a disparity in your incomes, should you claim for maintenance payments or push for a clean break to prevent your ex-partner coming back in the future to ask for more?

You also need to be sure that the way your children will be cared for is reasonable and practical. A solicitor can formalise your arrangements for your children so that you and your spouse have a parenting plan you can refer to should circumstances change.

The law is complex, the legal wording and forms are complicated, which is why it takes years to qualify as a solicitor! Our experienced family law solicitor can assist you with making the right decisions for your future, ensuring your long-term interests are protected.
